BRIGHTWATERS WOMAN SENTENCED TO THREE TO SIX YEARS IN PRISON FOR STEALING FROM EMPLOYER

Christa Ramos, 57, of Brightwaters, was sentenced to three to six years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing over $230,000 from her employer between 2018 and 2023. As an office manager, she wrote unauthorized checks to herself and deposited them into her personal account, using the funds for personal expenses. She also falsely reported to the Department of Labor that she was unemployed while collecting unemployment benefits fraudulently, stealing over $40,000 in taxpayer funds. She was ordered to pay restitution and was sentenced in June 2026.
