HONDURAN NATIONAL INDICTED FOR KIDNAPPING AND STRANGLING EX-GIRLFRIEND

Darli Mejia, a 42-year-old Honduran national, was indicted for kidnapping, strangulation, and other charges after allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend captive, dragging her into his backyard, and strangling her until she lost consciousness. The incident occurred in June 2026 when Mejia took the victim from work, refused to let her call a taxi, and attacked her when she resisted. The victim managed to call 911 after Mejia released her. Mejia was arraigned on multiple charges and is held on bail, facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has lodged a detainer to take custody of him.
