Juan Chuquimarca Guzman, a 20-year-old from Shelter Island, has been indicted for promoting and possessing child sexual abuse material after allegedly uploading over 4,000 videos and images of such content to a cloud service. The indictment follows an investigation initiated by a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in August 2024. New York State Police found child sexual abuse material on Guzman’s phone, and he reportedly exchanged some of these materials with others via a messaging app.
On November 18, 2024, Guzman was arraigned with 21 counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and 20 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. The judge ordered him held on a high bail of $1 million cash or $2 million bond. Guzman's next court date is set for December 12, 2024. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Zachary Kelly, with support from Investigator Ryan Delaney of the New York State Police. District Attorney Raymond Tierney emphasized the seriousness of child exploitation crimes during the announcement.
