Daniel Fier, a 40-year-old former attorney from Patchogue, has been indicted for allegedly stealing around $70,000 from clients through real estate transactions. The indictment includes charges of Grand Larceny in both the Second and Third Degrees. According to the Suffolk County District Attorney, Raymond A. Tierney, Fier misappropriated funds from clients' escrow accounts during two incidents—one in January 2022 involving a down payment of $13,450, and another in October 2023 involving a $65,000 down payment.
In both cases, Fier was required to hold the funds in escrow for clients but instead used the money for personal expenses. He was arrested on January 13, 2025, and arraigned the following day. If convicted of the top charge, he could face 5 to 15 years in prison. He has been released on his own recognizance under Supervised Release and is scheduled to return to court on February 4, 2025. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexander D. Sylvan. Victims of Fier are encouraged to report their cases to the District Attorney’s Office.
