Feb 26, 2025

Matthew Sheehy, a 47-year-old man from East Setauket, has been indicted for causing a serious three-vehicle crash that injured four people, including one woman who lost her eyesight in one eye. The crash occurred on November 15, 2024, when Sheehy allegedly drove while impaired by alcohol and drugs, speeding on the Long Island Expressway before crashing into a disabled minivan parked on the shoulder. This caused a chain reaction that resulted in another vehicle being struck. Sheehy was arrested at the hospital following the incident.

He faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Vehicular Assault, second-degree assault, and various counts of driving while intoxicated or impaired. He was arraigned on February 19, 2025, and is being held on bail pending a court date on March 12, 2025. If convicted, he could face 5 to 15 years in prison. The case is being prosecuted by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, and Sheehy is represented by an attorney.
