Steven Vazquez, 22, of Bay Shore, was indicted for attempting to seriously harm a Suffolk County police officer during an incident on May 6, 2025, in Amityville. The officer responded to reports of car break-ins and found Vazquez hiding under a truck. Vazquez allegedly emerged armed with a knife, slashed the officer’s neck and chin, and stabbed him in the leg and groin area. He then resisted arrest, prompting the use of a taser and the application of a tourniquet to control the officer’s bleeding. Vazquez was taken into custody and later arraigned on multiple charges, including attempted assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He remains remanded and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amanda Scheier, with the investigation led by Detective John Dunleavy.
