SOUND BEACH MAN CONVICTED OF FATAL SHOOTING OF HOMEOWNER DURING ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

Christopher Fernandez, a 29-year-old from Sound Beach, was convicted of second-degree murder for shooting and killing Michael Hartmann during an attempted burglary at Hartmann's home in Bohemia in 2022. Fernandez and an accomplice, both armed, mistakenly targeted Hartmann’s house, believing they were looking for stolen property, but Hartmann was an innocent homeowner and was shot multiple times. Fernandez was also convicted of attempted burglary, weapons charges, and petit larceny, and faces up to life in prison at sentencing. The case against his co-defendant, Oliver Schor, is still ongoing.
