Three Salvadoran nationals—Elvis Osvaldo Romero Martinez, Albert Yanes Moran, and Lorenzo Nohely Alvarado Navarrete—were arrested in Suffolk County for possessing two Molotov cocktails and gasoline, allegedly planning to firebomb a vehicle. Due to New York’s bail reform laws, all three were released after arraignment, despite the danger posed and the potential prison sentences. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the impact of bail reform and immigration issues, as two of the defendants have no legal status in the U.S. The investigation is ongoing, and charges could carry up to seven years in prison.
