MORICHES MAN SENTENCED TO 4 TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR RECKLESS CRASH THAT KILLED TEENAGE PASSENGER

Luis Gonzalo Barrionuevo Fuertes, 18, of Moriches, was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including vehicular homicide, for a drunk driving crash on Old Stone Highway in East Hampton that killed 19-year-old Scarleth Samaniego-Urgiles. The crash also seriously injured another passenger. Barrionuevo Fuertes, who had a blood alcohol content of .08%, was driving at high speed and lost control, resulting in the fatal crash. Sentencing is scheduled for March 18, 2026.
