Michael Lyles, a 37-year-old from Central Islip and prior violent felon, was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison after being convicted of possessing a loaded firearm and discharging it during a shooting outside a baby shower at the North Amityville Fire Department in January 2024. During the incident, Lyles fired ten shots at a vehicle, which was unoccupied, and then fled the scene. He was identified through surveillance footage, and law enforcement recovered the firearm and his clothing. Lyles was previously convicted of firearm possession in 2018 and was on parole at the time of the shooting but became non-compliant and fled before being apprehended seven months later. He was convicted in November 2025 and sentenced in March 2026.
