FORMER SUFFOLK COUNTY EMPLOYEE PLEADS GUILTY TO RECEIVING BRIBES

Brianna Hassett, a former Suffolk County employee from Wading River, pleaded guilty to attempting to accept bribes and falsifying license applications while working at the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Consumer Affairs. In collaboration with her husband, Esteban Bermudez, she accepted cash bribes in exchange for providing false application information and answers to licensing exams. Hassett resigned from her job in May 2025 and faces 1.5 to 3 years in prison at sentencing in May 2026. Bermudez also pleaded guilty and is scheduled for sentencing.
