HONDURAN NATIONAL CHARGED WITH VIOLENT RAPE AND ASSAULT OF A STRANGER

Jose Ignacio Bonilla Garcia, a 32-year-old Honduran man, has been indicted for first-degree rape and second-degree assault after allegedly raping an unconscious man behind a restaurant in Amityville and beating him when he tried to resist. The incident occurred on March 27, 2026, and surveillance footage captured the assault. The victim was found injured hours later and treated at the hospital. Bonilla Garcia was apprehended in Texas after fleeing Suffolk County and was extradited back for arraignment. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted and has a detainer lodged for deportation.
