Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s Retail Protection Partnership has expanded following its success in reducing shoplifting and targeting repeat offenders. Launched in October 2023, the program focuses on charging serial shoplifters with felonies to deter repeated thefts. Over the past six months, 18 alleged high-impact offenders have been charged with felonies, having committed around 80 thefts totaling over $110,000 in losses. The partnership involves law enforcement, prosecutors, and major retailers, and has achieved significant reductions in misdemeanor shoplifting. The U.S. Marshals also assist in apprehending the most wanted offenders.
