Officers with the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau rescued a man who was ejected from his boat near Fire Island Pines. Marine Bureau Officers Joseph Riviello and Anton Fanelli onboard Marine Juliette arrived on scene to discover the victim had crashed his boat into the bulkhead and a Good Samaritan was assisting the victim in the water until first responders arrived. The officers immediately jumped into the water and started rendering first aid to the victim. A third Marine Bureau officer, Richard Berni, jumped from Marine Kilo to the victim’s boat, which was now unoccupied and traveling in circles, to regain control of it. The victim was brought to shore and taken to Stony Brook Hospital by a Suffolk County Police Aviation Section helicopter. Due to the incredible work of Marine Bureau Officers Riviello, Fanelli and Berni; another life was saved. We are truly grateful to our members who go above and beyond to help those in need!
