MASTIC MAN CONVICTED OF WEAPONS POSSESSION AFTER HE FIRED MULTIPLE SHOTS AT A VEHICLE IN SHIRLEY LAST AUGUST
Apr 17, 2023
Tyriek Corbin Faces Up to 15 Years When Sentenced (SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that a jury found Tyriek Corbin, 24, of Mastic, guilty after trial on charges of weapons possession stemming from a shooting incident in August 2022. “This conviction is the result of a meaningless verbal discussion that, without warning, escalated into this defendant firing shots from an unlawfully possessed handgun in an open residential area full of children and families enjoying a beautiful summer day,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Thankfully, nobody was injured from this defendant’s actions, but this behavior has no place in Suffolk County. I remain committed to holding individuals that possess and shoot illegal guns in Suffolk County accountable for their actions.” Corbin was found guilty on April 11, 2023 of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony. The evidence at trial established that on August 14, 2022, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Corbin engaged in a verbal dispute with two individuals who were in a vehicle searching for a lost French Bulldog puppy on Lockwood Drive in Shirley. 2 The argument escalated to the point that Corbin briefly entered a residence on Lockwood Drive before returning with a loaded firearm, moments later. Corbin then fired that loaded gun at the vehicle containing the two individuals who were searching for the lost puppy and fired the gun multiple times at the vehicle as the vehicle attempted to drive away, striking the vehicle three times. Nobody was injured during the shooting, however, the vehicle suffered ballistics damage. The trial was heard before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Timothy P. Mazzei. Corbin is represented by Kevin Maccarone, Esq. He is due back in court for sentencing on June 14, 2023. Following his conviction, the District Attorney’s Office requested that Corbin be remanded into custody, as he faces a minimum of 3 ½ years in prison. However, the court did not alter the defendant’s bail conditions and allowed him to remain at liberty. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Martha Duffy and William Richards of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau.
