HEMPSTEAD MAN CONVICTED AFTER JURY TRIAL OF ROBBERY AND ASSAULT

Jason Funderburke, a 38-year-old from Hempstead, was convicted by a jury of robbery and assault for a violent crime involving the owner of a funeral home in Amityville, New York, which occurred in August 2023. The incident took place as the victim was entering the funeral home, during which Funderburke and an accomplice threatened him with a knife, demanding money. After the victim refused, they attacked him, stabbing him twice and stealing his belongings. He was subsequently treated for his injuries.

Funderburke was found guilty of several charges, including First Degree Robbery and Second Degree Assault, after a trial led by Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei. He faces up to 25 years in prison at sentencing, scheduled for April 16, 2025. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kieran R. Rogers and Amanda B. Scheier, with the investigation conducted by Detective Corey Malinowski and other law enforcement personnel.
