PRIOR FELONY OFFENDER FOUND GUILTY OF SHOOTING VICTIM OUTSIDE BILLIARDS BAR

Jonathan Redar, a 33-year-old from Miller Place with prior felony convictions, was found guilty after a jury trial of first-degree assault and second-degree weapon possession for shooting a relative outside a billiards bar in Mount Sinai on May 7, 2024. During an argument, Redar fired a shot that injured the victim in the arm and abdomen, requiring emergency surgery. Redar, who was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to previous convictions, fled the scene but was arrested on May 15, 2024. He faces up to 25 years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on June 10, 2025. The case was prosecuted by Suffolk County authorities, with investigations led by Suffolk County Police detectives.
