Tiansi Gong, Kevin McCarthy, and Matthew Hibner were indicted for running an identity theft scheme that used stolen identities to purchase luxury vehicles and secure over $500,000 in car loans. The investigation revealed that the suspects stored stolen cars in Suffolk County and used stolen identities — including some victims' personal information obtained from financial records — to buy high-end vehicles. McCarthy led a violent police chase after attempting to evade arrest, during which he rammed a police car and fled, and was found with weapons, drugs, and vehicle titles. Several stolen vehicles were recovered, and some victims’ identities were linked to fraudulent loans. The suspects face multiple charges, with bail set for some and others released on recognizance. The case continues to develop, with law enforcement working to identify additional victims.
