MAN INDICTED FOR AGGRAVATED VEHICULAR HOMICIDE IN FATAL FATHER’S DAY SINGLE-CAR CRASH

Luis Gonzalo Barrionuevo Fuertes, 18, of Moriches, was indicted for aggravated vehicular homicide and related charges after allegedly driving while intoxicated and crashing his car into a tree on Father’s Day, June 15, 2025, in East Hampton. The crash killed 19-year-old passenger Scarleth Samaniego-Urgiles and seriously injured another passenger. The investigation revealed Barrionuevo Fuertes and a group of seven teens had been drinking before the crash. He was arraigned on multiple charges, including manslaughter and assault, and is held on bail. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, with a court date set for August 19, 2025. The case continues with law enforcement and prosecutors working to hold him accountable.
