YAPHANK MAN INDICTED FOR ASSAULT FOR APRIL CRASH ON THE SUNRISE HIGHWAY SERVICE ROAD

In April 2025, Andy Bonilla Chicas of Yaphank was indicted for a crash on Sunrise Highway Service Road that injured his passenger. He allegedly was speeding and impaired by alcohol and drugs when he lost control of his vehicle, struck a tree, and caused serious injuries to the passenger, who required emergency surgery. Bonilla Chicas was arrested, charged with multiple offenses including assault, vehicular assault, DWI, and reckless driving, and was arraigned in July. He faces up to 7 years in prison and is scheduled to return to court in August.
