UNDOMICILED MAN INDICTED FOR KIDNAPPING

Nelson Priester, a 39-year-old homeless man, was indicted for kidnapping a 4-year-old boy while his grandfather was praying at a mosque in Bay Shore. Priester allegedly approached the child, took him to a basement, and locked himself in a room with the child, who was unharmed. Mosque members intervened, called police, and found Priester with a plastic bag and scissors. Priester was arraigned on charges including second-degree kidnapping and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted. He is currently remanded and scheduled to return to court on September 18, 2025.
