YAPHANK WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER FOR CAUSING CRASH THAT LEFT ONE PERSON DEAD AND ANOTHER INJURED

Melissa Koprowski, 32, of Yaphank, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and related charges for a drunk and marijuana-impaired crash in November 2024 that resulted in the death of 75-year-old Esther Guy and injuries to the driver. The crash occurred when Koprowski's SUV failed to yield and collided head-on with the Nissan Rogue, which carried Guy and her two-year-old grandchild. Koprowski was intoxicated at the time, with a blood alcohol level of .12% and high THC levels. She faces 4 to 12 years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing.
