Suffolk County law enforcement announced the arrest of 16 individuals involved in two organized criminal groups that stole over half a million pounds of donated clothing from charity bins across the county between November 2024 and September 2025. The thefts, linked to operations led by Alfredo Perez and Manuel Cabrera, involved hundreds of break-ins, with stolen clothing sold to exporters for over $190,000. The investigation resulted in multiple arrests, including Perez and Cabrera, who used vehicles to access donation bins and transport clothing. Several other defendants, including juveniles, also participated in the thefts. Authorities emphasized their commitment to prosecuting crimes targeting vulnerable communities and protecting charitable donations.
