INVESTIGATIVE BREAKTHROUGH BRINGS CLOSURE TO 28-YEAR-OLD MURDER OF ANN LUSTIG AND 29-YEAR-OLD SEXUAL ASSAULT

The Suffolk County Cold Case Task Force solved two long-unsolved crimes from 1996 and 1997 using modern DNA technology. The cases involved the murder of 69-year-old Ann Lustig and the sexual assault of an 82-year-old woman. DNA evidence linked the crimes to Steven Briecke, who is now deceased. The investigation reanalyzed old evidence, developed a full DNA profile, and matched it to Briecke through the national CODIS database. Although Briecke cannot be prosecuted due to his death, the cases have been resolved, providing closure for the victims’ families.
