GUATEMALAN NATIONAL FOUND GUILTY AFTER JURY TRIAL OF ATTEMPTED ASSAULT IN THE FIRST DEGREE

Albaro Chacon, 38, was found guilty after a jury trial in Suffolk County, New York, of attempting to assault his girlfriend with a knife, resulting in multiple stab wounds. The incident occurred on November 16, 2024, while the victim’s children were present. Chacon attacked her in her bedroom, stabbing her three times in the arm, and attempted to kill her while her two-year-old niece was in the room. After the attack, Chacon left the house, approached the victim outside, and was arrested by police. Evidence showed Chacon had also moved the children and cleaned the crime scene. He was convicted of attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault, evidence tampering, and endangering the welfare of three children. He faces up to 15 years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on January 5, 2025. The case highlights the dangers of domestic violence and encourages victims to seek help.
