PRIOR VIOLENT FELONY OFFENDER CONVICTED BY JURY FOR POSSESSING LOADED FIREARM FOLLOWING SHOOTING OUTSIDE OF A BABY SHOWER

Michael Lyles, 37, of Central Islip, was convicted of possessing a loaded firearm after shooting in the parking lot of a baby shower at the North Amityville Fire Department in January 2024. During a fight, Lyles fired 10 shots, hitting a vehicle but not harming anyone. He was identified through surveillance footage, and law enforcement recovered shell casings and his sweatshirt. Lyles, a prior felon on parole, fled after the incident but was later apprehended. He faces 25 years to life in prison at sentencing in January 2026.
