Today, we honor the life and legacy of Suffolk County Police Sergeant James Thomas Farrell, who passed away on this day in 2017 from a post-9/11-related cancer.
Sergeant Farrell proudly served our department for 22 years and was a trusted, respected leader throughout his career. On September 11, 2001, he responded to Chelsea Piers to assist with emergency trauma and First Aid operations—a selfless act that ultimately led to the cancer he fought after retirement.
We remember his courage, his service, and the sacrifice he made for others. Our thoughts remain with the Farrell family as they continue to carry his memory in their hearts.
