LONG-HAUL TRUCKER SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDERING HIS GIRLFRIEND

Willie Hart, a 61-year-old long-haul trucker from Yaphank, was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Candace Woodruff, in May 2023. Hart called police after allegedly finding her unresponsive in his tractor cab near a motel in Patchogue. She was later pronounced dead from asphyxiation caused by neck compression. Evidence showed a struggle between them, with surveillance footage capturing the incident. Hart was convicted of second-degree murder in October and sentenced in December.
