RIVERHEAD MAN INDICTED FOR AGGRAVATED VEHICULAR ASSAULT FOR HEAD-ON CRASH THAT CAUSED INJURIES TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE

Erik Yat Velasquez, 22, of Riverhead, was indicted for aggravated vehicular assault and related charges after allegedly causing a head-on crash while intoxicated and speeding on Quogue Riverhead Road. The crash injured five people, including two seriously, with victims suffering broken bones, head injuries, and other serious trauma. Velasquez was treated for injuries himself and was arrested after law enforcement observed signs of intoxication. He faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges and is scheduled for court on March 3, 2026, with potential penalties of 5 to 15 years in prison if convicted.
