Emilio Hernandez, a 55-year-old man from Bay Shore, was sentenced to 15 years in prison following his conviction for robbing a laundromat in April 2023. The jury found him guilty of Robbery in the Second Degree and other charges after evidence showed that he used a starter pistol during the robbery while disguised with a hat, mask, and sunglasses. Hernandez fled the scene in a black Honda but was apprehended shortly after, with police recovering cash and items used in the crime from his vehicle.
Hernandez has a significant criminal history, including multiple prior convictions for violent felonies and misdemeanors. His sentencing reflects the legal system's handling of repeat offenders, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. Hernandez’s previous sentences include time in prison for past robberies dating back to 1989. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys and investigated by the Suffolk County Police Department's Homicide Squad.
