Apr 15, 2025

Alexander Cerda, a 21-year-old from Bay Shore, has been indicted on multiple charges, including Manslaughter in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree, after allegedly striking and killing pedestrian Eric Perez while driving a stolen vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred on March 8, 2025, when Cerda reportedly stole a Toyota RAV4 from a residence, drove recklessly without headlights, and hit Perez, who was walking on the street. Following the crash, Cerda exited the vehicle to take pictures of the damage but fled the scene before police arrived. He was later arrested, and the stolen car was found near his home.  Cerda faces a range of charges, with potential prison time of 5 to 15 years if convicted on the most serious charge. His bail is set at $400,000 cash. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 2, 2025.
