MASTIC MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON FOR KILLING HIS HOUSEMATE

Philip Walker, a 58-year-old resident of Mastic, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree for the fatal stabbing of his housemate, 63-year-old Jimmy Vaughn. The incident occurred on June 30, 2023, at the Shirley Motel, where Walker stabbed Vaughn three times with a knife. Despite efforts to save him, Vaughn died shortly after the attack. Walker fled the scene but was arrested two days later. District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney emphasized the seriousness of the crime and the importance of holding individuals accountable for violent actions. Walker's plea was accepted by Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis, and he was represented by attorney Eric Besso.
