PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED FELON SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON AFTER JURY CONVICTION FOR ROBBERY AND ASSAULT OF AMITYVILLE BUSINESS OWNER

Jason Funderburke, a 39-year-old from Hempstead, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of robbery and assault against a funeral home owner in Amityville. The incident occurred on August 29, 2023, when Funderburke and an accomplice, armed with a knife, demanded money from the victim and stabbed him twice after he refused. The victim suffered serious injuries and required hospitalization.
Funderburke was convicted on March 12, 2025, of multiple charges, including first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. Prior to this case, he had a criminal history with several felony convictions. The sentencing was upheld by Justice Timothy P. Mazzei and the case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys from the Major Crime Bureau.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney emphasized the commitment to combat violent crime in the community.
