SELDEN TEEN INDICTED FOR MURDER OF GRANDMOTHER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER OF MOTHER

A 15-year-old from Selden, New York, has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his grandmother over 35 times and seriously injuring his mother. The incidents occurred on April 7, 2025, during a confrontation related to the teen's school attendance and potential confiscation of his laptop. Following the attack, the grandmother died at the scene, while the mother survived by pretending to be dead. 

The defendant, who was arraigned on April 16, 2025, faces possible prison time of 15 years to life if convicted. He is currently in custody and is scheduled to return to court on May 21, 2025. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Dena Rizopoulos, with the investigation led by Detective Michael Ronca of the Suffolk County Police Department's Homicide Squad. The District Attorney expressed the profound trauma such violence brings to families and emphasized the pursuit of justice for the victims.
