|
|
Marvin Sandoval and Charles Weiss pleaded guilty to illegally dumping construction and household waste in the protected Long Island Pine Barrens. They loaded debris into a U-Haul and dumped it in a remote wooded area in November 2024. Their actions were reported by civilians and investigated by law enforcement. Weiss was fined $7,500, and Sandoval was fined $7,500 for violating Suffolk County’s Evergreen Law. The case highlights Suffolk County’s efforts to combat illegal dumping through increased fines and public reporting incentives, aimed at protecting the ecologically vital Pine Barrens, which supplies Long Island’s drinking water and supports local wildlife.
