Gherson Lopez, a 29-year-old Salvadorian, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for fatally stabbing 34-year-old Jose Argueta-Canales outside a Copiague deli in May 2023. The altercation began as a verbal dispute, escalated to a physical fight, and ended with Lopez stabbing the victim twice in the chest. Lopez faces up to 20 years in prison and will be sentenced on August 13, 2025.
