Juan Morales Guerra, 32, was sentenced in absentia to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison for leaving the scene after seriously injuring a pedestrian in Brentwood in May 2022. The victim sustained a traumatic brain injury requiring emergency surgery. Despite the charges, Morales Guerra fled to El Salvador after his arraignment, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was convicted in March 2025 after a jury trial held in his absence. Authorities continue to work with federal partners to locate and return him to face justice.
