NEW JERSEY CONTRACTOR PLEADS GUILTY TO FAILURE TO PAY EMPLOYEES’ WAGES
|
|
Geraldo DeAlmeida, 57, of South River, New Jersey, and his company R&L Concrete, Inc., pleaded guilty to failing to pay approximately $99,671 in wages and benefits to employees working on a public construction project in Suffolk County between 2019 and 2020. DeAlmeida misclassified employees to pay lower wages and omitted one worker from payroll records, violating labor laws. He was ordered to pay back the withheld wages and, due to a felony conviction, R&L Concrete is banned from public projects in New York for five years. The case emphasizes efforts to protect workers’ rights and combat wage theft.
