BRENTWOOD MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER

Jason Kurumoglu, a 30-year-old man from Brentwood, was indicted for the murder of his mother, Melida Velasquez. She was found dead in her home on September 9, 2025, with a knife in her back. Kurumoglu surrendered to police at the scene and was observed with dried blood on his hands and clothing. Investigators believe he returned home around 1:23 p.m. after arguing with his mother and stepfather, and the murder occurred sometime before police arrived. Kurumoglu was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and is remanded without bail, facing up to life in prison if convicted. His next court date is October 18, 2025.
