SALVADORIAN NATIONAL SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR MANSLAUGHTER

Gherson Lopez, a 29-year-old Salvadorian national, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter for fatally stabbing 34-year-old Jose Argueta-Canales outside a Copiague deli in May 2023. The altercation began as a verbal dispute, escalated to a physical fight, and ended with Lopez stabbing the victim twice in the chest. Lopez was sentenced in September 2025 and will serve five years of post-release supervision.
