BRENTWOOD MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER

Jason Kurumoglu, 30, of Brentwood, NY, was indicted for second-degree murder for allegedly stabbing his mother, Melida Velasquez, to death. The incident occurred on September 9, 2025, at their home, where Velasquez was found dead with a knife in her back. Kurumoglu surrendered to police at the scene, with dried blood on his hands and shirt. Investigators believe he returned home around 1:23 p.m., shortly after the murder. He had prior arguments with his mother and stepfather and was fired from his job the day of the incident. Kurumoglu was remanded without bail and faces up to 25 years to life if convicted. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 18, 2025.
