SALVADORAN WOMAN INDICTED FOR FLEEING CRASH THAT KILLED PEDESTRIAN

Silvia Alvarez DeReyes, 46, of El Salvador, was indicted for fleeing the scene of a fatal crash in Riverhead, where she struck and killed 45-year-old pedestrian Ever Eli Damian Mazat. After the incident on October 5, 2025, Alvarez DeReyes allegedly left the scene, went to a friend's house, and returned two hours later. She was arrested and her vehicle was recovered. She faces charges including leaving the scene without reporting and operating a vehicle without a proper license. She is remanded until her court date and may face several years in prison; DHS-ICE has lodged a detainer for her deportation after serving her sentence.
