Campbell Smith Jr., 58, of Holtsville, was indicted for second-degree manslaughter after allegedly driving while intoxicated and hitting 54-year-old Michael Barnhardt of Manorville, who was crossing the street, resulting in Barnhardt's death. The incident occurred on August 31, 2025, on County Road 111. Witnesses reported Smith driving aggressively before the crash, and he reportedly did not report the accident, instead repairing his truck at a body shop afterward. Investigators found evidence linking Smith to the crash and confirmed he was drinking at a bar earlier that day. Smith was arrested on September 11, 2025, and arraigned on multiple charges, including manslaughter, assault, vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene, tampering with evidence, DWI, and reckless driving. He is held on bail and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
