Valdemar Meza-Martinez, 17, was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of a serious crash that injured six people, including a victim whose legs were severed. The crash occurred while he was driving outside of his learner’s permit restrictions, and he fled the scene on foot after the collision. He was apprehended 11 hours later and admitted to the charges. The case highlights concerns over lenient penalties for hit-and-run cases involving serious injuries.
