MORICHES MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO RECKLESS CRASH THAT KILLED TEENAGE PASSENGER

Luis Gonzalo Barrionuevo Fuertes, 18, from Moriches, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, for causing a deadly crash on Old Stone Highway in East Hampton on Father’s Day. He was intoxicated, speeding at 74 mph in a 30-mph zone, when he lost control and crashed into a tree, killing 19-year-old passenger Scarleth Samaniego-Urgiles and injuring others. Barrionuevo Fuertes had consumed alcohol with friends before driving. He faces 4 to 12 years in prison at sentencing on March 18, 2026.
