Amanda Burnside, a 42-year-old from East Quogue, has been found guilty of Arson in the Second Degree and related charges following a jury trial. The case, announced by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, involved Burnside's attempts to set three homes on fire in Hampton Bays in November 2023, one of which was occupied by four people at the time. On November 12, she successfully ignited a fire using gasoline and paper on a porch. Burnside's actions posed significant risks to lives and property, leading to her arrest by the Southampton Town Police Department.
On January 27, 2025, a jury convicted her of one count of Arson in the Second Degree and two counts of Attempted Arson in the Second Degree. She faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for February 25, 2025. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jonathan Cappiello and Tara O’Donnell, with the investigation led by Detectives Michael Algozzino and Ryan Hughes.
