79 Law School and Undergrad Students Will Gain Firsthand Experience in Public Service and the Criminal Justice System as They Assist Suffolk Prosecutors this Summer (SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office’s Summer 2023 Internship Program began this week, with 79 law school and undergrad students joining the Office as summer interns. “We have hired an extremely diverse group of students this year who will gain practical and invaluable skills this summer that they cannot acquire from sitting in a classroom,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Throughout their internship, our interns will work closely with Suffolk County Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators, and will get an introduction on what it is like to be a prosecutor. They will learn how to investigate cases, sharpen their litigation skills, and even assist with post-conviction appellate work.” The new internship class currently studies at 25 different undergraduate universities, and 18 different law schools, across the country. While many of the students are from New York, there are multiple students from other states and countries. The students come from varied ethnic backgrounds and speak 18 different languages including Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Bengali, Polish, Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean. The interns are assigned to a bureau and can assist Assistant District Attorneys with cases and investigations. Additionally, as part of the program, the summer interns will tour portions of the Suffolk County Police Department, the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory, the Suffolk County Correctional Facility, and the United States Federal District Court.
